Position Available August 2019: PreK 3 Teacher

Founded in 1963 by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, Grey Nun Academy (GNA) is an independent Catholic, co-educational elementary school in Bucks County, PA for children in grades PreK3 through Eighth grade. The Academy offers an academically rich curriculum that meets the unique needs of individual students, respecting the rights, interests, and dignity of each child. The PreK teacher supports the Academy’s mission, vision and philosophy while overseeing the academic, social, physical, and emotional well-being of the students. In addition to outstanding teaching ability, the position requires expertise with the social and emotional needs of this age group and the ability to balance the encouragement of intellectual and character growth with the importance of play. We have found that professional educators who love to teach, collaborate, guide, coach, and mentor children as they learn and play, are well suited for teaching at Grey Nun Academy. Job Summary

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in each child. The ideal Preschool Teacher is also responsible for:

  • Implementing a rigorous yet developmentally appropriate curriculum based on best practices and research

  • Building a positive, safe, inclusive, and fun classroom community that is conducive to learning

  • Joyfully planning and executing dynamic, developmentally appropriate lessons

  • Informing Assistant Head of School and parents of student’s academic or behavioral difficulties, work together as a team to plan and implement success strategies

  • Building a positive, safe, inclusive, and fun classroom community

  • Collaborating and communicating with other teachers in the development of curriculum

  • Communicating consistently with parents about students’ goals and progress to involve families in the students’ education

  • Keeping accurate attendance records and completing progress and grade reports for each student in a timely manner using school guidelines

  • Increasing professional knowledge by participating in professional development opportunities

  • Participating in all events related to the academic calendar

The ideal candidates should possess many of the following qualifications:

  • Experience working with primary school-age children (preferably kindergarten and first grade); recent graduates are welcome to apply

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (or equivalent qualifications)

  • Active teacher certification; Google Level 1 Certification will be required

  • A clear understanding of child development and elementary education

Position Available: Performing Arts & Music Coordinator/Teacher for the 2019-20 Academic Year

Grey Nun Academy seeks a part time Music and Performing Arts Coordinator for all grade levels in our PreK3 through 8th grade school. Candidates must be motivated and enjoy working in an educational environment. The ideal candidate will be expected to plan, organize and implement developmentally appropriate and dynamic instructional programs for Visual and Performing Arts for grade levels PreK-8.  Individuals with only Visual/Performing Arts or Music experience may also be considered. This educator performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Academy. The Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator must work collaboratively and Communicate effectively with all members of the GNA community and be committed to educate the whole student in a diverse, nurturing and rigorous school environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Music and/or related field. MFA or MA in Music Education preferred

Active Department of Education teaching certificate required

Preferably minimum of two-three years’ experience in Music and/or Performing Arts

Design, facilitate and implement a robust Music program:

Communicate musical concepts and instruction with sound oral and written communications skills.

Create projects that introduce and support skills needed for the various aspects of a robust music curriculum across grade levels.

Offer choral and general music instruction, including skill building around listening, rhythm, notation, movement, music history, improvisation, composition, and performance.

Expose students to a variety of musical tools designed to foster musical growth, such as Orff instruments, hand percussion, recorders, and stringed instruments.

Facilitate of a variety of musical performing groups that rehearse before and after school.

Provide music for the Academy’s liturgy and prayer services.

Offer opportunities in Musical Theater in class as well as through the Academy’s After School Enrichment Program.

Implement rich experiences by means of online resources and virtual/actual art field trips, Fine Arts Night, etc.

Build students’ confidence and self-esteem through positive participation and opportunities in the classroom and within the greater Grey Nun Academy school community.

Demonstrate the technology skills needed to engage students throughout the Arts.

Utilize clear and concise communications with students and parents.

Possess excellent classroom management skills.

It is expected the successful candidate will:

  • Provide individual counseling

  • Conduct group guidance lessons

  • Serve as liaison between parent, teachers, learning specialists, outside professionals and administration as needed, regarding strategies to assist students

  • Support the Academy’s academic and co-curricular program

  • Facilitate the high school application process

  • Manage student disciplinary issues

  • Oversee middle school student events with faculty

Minimum Requirements:

The Extended Day Staff provide a combination of organized, recreational and educational activities that adheres to a specific schedule and approved plan of activities. Under the direct supervision of the Extended Day Coordinator and Assistant Head of School, employee responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Spervise children using GNA values.  Integrate the values and principles of GNA in the Extended Day Program.  

  • Account for each student at dismissal and for duration of the extended school day.

  • Collaborate with the After School Enrichment Coordinator and support the needs of that program if needed.

Grey Nun Academy seeks professional substitute nurses for our Health Office for all grade levels in our PreK3 through 8th grade school. Candidates must be motivated and enjoy working in an educational environment. The School Nurse is responsible for developing and maintaining GNA’s health policies and programs. The primary role is to provide health services to the students. The School Nurse must work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all members of the GNA community.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a license as a Registered Nurse
  • License as a School Nurse by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - preferred
  • Certification in AED, Epipen, First Aid and CPR
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in school health nursing, pediatric nursing, community/public health nursing, or other relevant clinical nursing experience
  • Ability to work as a team member with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent technology skills
