Position Title: Part-time Facility Maintenance Technician– 2018-19 school year

Founded in 1963 by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, Grey Nun Academy is an independent, Catholic, co-educational elementary school in Bucks County, PA for children in grades PreK3 through Eighth grade. The Academy offers an academically rich curriculum that meets the unique needs of individual students, respecting the rights, interests, and dignity of each child. The Facility Maintenance Tech is a part-time position (16hrs per week) supervised by the Director of Finance and Operations and reports directly to the Head of School. He/she is responsible for planning/organizing and performing the day-to-day activities related to maintenance, repairs and improvements to the physical plant at Grey Nun Academy (GNA). All work performed will be in compliance with the established local, state, and federal policies/regulations. He/she will participate in short-term and long-range planning for the schools repairs and preventative maintenance to make the most effective and efficient use of skills, facilities, and equipment available. Some work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions; other work is performed indoors at the Academy. Primary responsibilities include: performing the daily maintenance/repairs and improvements required of the facility, such maintenance/repairs include but are not limited to:

  • Painting Working with vendors as needed
  • Miscellaneous carpentry Moving furniture
  • Repairing/replacing light fixtures Hanging pictures
  • Spackling/wall repair Repairing lockers
  • Replacing ceiling and floor tiles Minor electrical work and plumbing
  • All other minor repairs needed as directed by the Director of Finance and Operations and/or the Head of School.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a working knowledge of facilities maintenance.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in all phases of building maintenance and custodial services, including a basic general knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC systems.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, OSHA requirements and public safety matters.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and apply considerable ingenuity and practical knowledge to interpret and resolve new, unusual, or particularly troublesome situations.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to read and interpret technical manuals and other materials pertaining to facility maintenance, equipment, systems and repair.
  • Must be able to write correspondence, memos and work schedules.
  • Must read emails daily and listen to voice mails daily – must respond accordingly and within 24 hours of email or voice mail.
  • Candidates must have a positive attitude and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver’s license.
  • Background clearances required upon hiring.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to operate maintenance/custodial equipment
  • Able to climb stairs (continuous/80+ %)
  • Able to climb 10ft. ladder (continuous/80+ %)
  • Able to lift up to 60lbs

WORK HOURS: Work hours are based on operational need: Flexible -4 hours per day; 4 days per working week; 16hrs per week

Position Title: Full Time Middle Division English and Language Arts Teacher – 2018-19 school year

Founded in 1963 by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, Grey Nun Academy is an independent, Catholic, co-educational elementary school in Bucks County, PA for children in grades PreK3 through Eighth grade. The Academy offers an academically rich curriculum that meets the unique needs of individual students, respecting the rights, interests, and dignity of each child. The English/Language Arts (ELA) program aims to develop reading, writing, speaking, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary skills. In addition students must study a broad span of literary genres in order to prepare them for placement in independent high schools. Our ELA curriculum should align with social studies to build a humanities bridge between ELA and social studies. The middle division ELA curriculum should build on the elementary division’s Balanced Literacy concepts. Ideal candidates are those who seek to partner with parents, collaborate with colleagues, demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, motivate students academically, and support students in developing their moral character.

Preferred Professional Qualifications:

  • Active Teacher Certification required with previous middle school English teaching experience and ability to manage a classroom
  • Previous Catholic and/or independent school teaching along with high school teaching experiences; Familiarity with independent school culture with a faith based mission and an interest in leading co-curricular activities
  • Technology competency in both Mac and PC applications as well as Google Level 1certification
  • The ability to engage students in connecting their learning to real world events and authentic problem solving
  • Experience in reaching the range of learners, differentiate instruction, and provide help to students as needed; The experience to facilitate student learning in a supportive classroom environment that promotes, supports, and models creative and innovative thinking
  • A love of English; possess the skills to motivate and inspire students to develop skills and confidence in this area; respond to the unique needs of middle school students
  • The incentive to work collaboratively with others, communicating well with parents, students, faculty and staff
  • A bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education or an English, writing, or literature related degree. Advanced degrees preferred; recent graduates are welcome to apply
  • A love of literature and an interest in academic writing and the ability to convey research writing skills to students as well as an deep understanding of traditional grammar

Position Title: Full Time Middle School Science and Math Teacher – 2018-19 school year

The Science and Math program aims to develop and fine-tune their skills in making observations, practicing critical thinking, and working cooperatively with peers in this inquiry-based course. They discuss ways in which to view the natural world on a scientific level. Discussion and experimentation include a variety of topics in the fields of earth science, environmental science, and technology. In addition students must master both subjects in order to prepare them for placement in independent high schools. Ideal candidates are those who seek to partner with parents, collaborate with colleagues, demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, motivate students academically, and support students in developing their moral character.

Grey Nun Academy seeks a dynamic 6, 7, 8 grade Math/Science Teacher with a Bachelor Degree or higher degree along with dual certifications. Recent graduates are welcome to apply. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous Catholic and/or independent school teaching along with high school teaching experiences
  • Technology competency in both Mac and PC applications as well as Google Level 1certification

Grey Nun Academy seeks professional substitute nurses for our Health Office for all grade levels in our PreK3 through 8th grade school. Candidates must be motivated and enjoy working in an educational environment. The School Nurse is responsible for developing and maintaining GNA’s health policies and programs. The primary role is to provide health services to the students. The School Nurse must work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all members of the GNA community.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a license as a Registered Nurse
  • License as a School Nurse by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - preferred
  • Certification in AED, Epipen, First Aid and CPR
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in school health nursing, pediatric nursing, community/public health nursing, or other relevant clinical nursing experience
  • Ability to work as a team member with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent technology skills
