Teacher Feature: Ms. Kristen Strzelec

Ms. Kristen Strzelec (Fourth Grade) is this week's featured teacher in our series: A Visit to the Teacher's Lounge! Here, we ask Grey Nun Academy faculty to answer seven questions about themselves to help our community get to know them better.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A TEACHER?

I love seeing students make progress and grow throughout the year. It's also rewarding to see that moment the "light bulb" goes off and a student who was struggling with a concept eventually understands it.

DO YOU HAVE A TEACHING "MOTTO?"

Mistakes help your brain grow!

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AS A TEACHER?

One of my goals is to inspire my students to develop a lifelong love of learning. Another goal is to encourage my students to realize all that they are capable of doing and to believe in themselves.

WHAT IS ONE THING A TEACHER SAID/DID THAT YOU HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN?

My sixth grade teacher always made learning fun and interactive. For instance, I remember having our own Greek Olympics when we were learning about ancient Greece in history class. She is one of the teachers who inspired me to become a teacher!

WHAT IS THE GREATEST SUCCESS YOU'VE HAD IN TEACHING?

At the end of the school year, I have students write a journal entry about their favorite part of the year. Some students have written that I was their favorite part or that everything from the year was their favorite part. It's always a good feeling to know that these students enjoyed their time in my class and that I positively impacted them.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING FOR ENJOYMENT?

What Alice Forgot by Liane Morarity

WHAT IS A LITTLE-KNOWN/UNIQUE FACT ABOUT YOU?

I played basketball throughout grade school and high school, and I coached a basketball team a few years ago.

Ms. Strzelec holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from St. Joseph's University.
