Teacher Feature: Ms. Taylor Kane

Ms. Taylor Kane (Fifth Grade Lead Teacher) is this week's featured teacher in our new series: A Visit to the Teacher's Lounge! Here, we ask Grey Nun Academy faculty to answer seven questions about themselves to help our community get to know them better.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?

I love when I can see a student have that "a-ha!" moment.

Do you have a teaching "motto?"

Make your brain sweat!

What are your goals as a teacher?

I strive to ensure that every child leaves the room feeling confident - whether that is in their social, emotional, or academic development.

What is one thing a teacher said/did that you have never forgotten?

In eighth grade, I had a teacher that would stay after school and tutor me in math. At our graduation ceremony, I received an award for Math. I couldn't believe it! Years later, when I was in college, that same teacher e-mailed me because she heard I was studying to be a teacher. She told me then that I never needed the tutoring for my ability, but for my confidence. She gave me that award hoping I would realize I was better than I thought and to boost my confidence moving into high school. I will never forget that because I was touched by the investment she made in me.

What is the greatest success you've had in teaching?

It's extremely rewarding when I hear stories from previous students/parents that they have retained something that they learned from me.

What are you currently reading for enjoyment?

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

What is a little-known/unique fact about you?

I was part of the women's swim team at Duquesne University, but had shoulder issues throughout my career. The doctor that did my shoulder surgeries is the same doctor that operated on Carson Wentz!

Ms. Kane holds a B.A. in Education from Duquesne University.
