Grey Nun Academy Visiting Author Program Ends Year with Author John Patrick Green (Macmillan)

Students Treated to a Live Reading of His New Book Hippopotamister, and Created an Illustrated Interactive Storyboard

June 23, 2016 -- Yardley, PA – Grey Nun Academy concluded its successful visiting author series as host to children’s’ book author and illustrator John Patrick Green, who engaged an avid group of young readers at the Academy’s campus in Bucks County, PA. Reading from his just-released book Hippopotamister, (Macmillan) John captivated students with his touching tale of friendship and adventure, a must read for young learners, while demonstrating his artistic talents with a live, interactive storyboard.

“In partnership with Newtown Bookshop, the Academy has been instrumental in hosting notable authors to the area to educate children and adults about the creative process and what is involved in writing, illustrating, and publishing books of all kinds and for various audiences,” said Deborah Kost, Head of School at Grey Nun Academy. “We were so pleased to be able to offer this wonderful educational opportunity to our students, because author visits like this one help to inspire young writers and artists about the possibilities for their own futures.”

During the presentation, students were mesmerized by the story and how Mr. Green illustrates his tales, and were excited to ask questions and find out what other adventures were in store for the Hippopotamister.

Mr. Green is a versatile and talented artist and writer from New York City. He currently resides in Brooklyn after having grown up on Long Island and has worked in New York City since graduating from the School of Visual Arts with a degree in graphic design. His artistic talents were instrumental in helping to launch a career as comics consultant for Disney Adventures magazine, where he wrote and often illustrated the popular Last Laugh feature. John is also the co-creator and illustrator of the novel series Jax Epoch and the Quicken Forbidden and Teen Boat. These books were collaborative ventures with writer Dave Roman. Mr. Green has also worked as a writer, illustrator, or designer on a variety of comics and illustrated novels for Nickelodeon Magazine, DreamWorks, Scholastic Graphix, and DC Comics.

His newly released book Hippopotamister has received excellent reviews. Comments have ranged from: “His illustrations burst with personality. His comedic sense shines….and his visual storytelling skills are remarkable,” to “Clever and fun!” and “Delightfully sweet.”
